Why is it worth investing in the SAS GPS solutions?
Thanks to the applications provided by SAS GPS (SAS Flota) a company can achieve three main types of savings - improved fuel economy (including reduction of losses), increased fleet utilisation efficiency (better control over tasks performed by personnel as well as objective determination of private versus job usage of a vehicle) as well as decreasing the workload related to fleet administrative tasks (automation of reminders about imporant dates as well as ease of generaing reports and analyses for the entire fleet).
Fuel economy: the soluton provided by SAS GPS can bring fuel-related savings of about 20%. They stem mainly from better control over fuel use - reduction of lossess due to theft and improper driving regime. The application provides several algorithms for normed consumption calculation to be compared with actual fuelling data (easily uploaded to the application) as well as identify events of fuel theft in which the fuel level in a vehicle's tank dropped abnormally.

Example: the above report is generated by the application for a truck equipped with the fuel level sensor. The sudden drop in the fuel level suggest possible fuel theft. In the case above for February there were in total 3 such incidents detected and a loss of 216 liters in total recorded.
It is also important to take into consideration the losses that a company incurs due to improper driving regime or drivers' habits. The application can detect uneconomical driving thanks to comparison of normative consumption over a certain period with actual fuelling data. This information can be used to continually improve the driver's habits.
The result of improved fleet utilisation is mainly achieved due to the ability to better analyse each vehicle activity and determining the appropriate number of vehicles in line with the level of workload. In addition a direct saving can be achieved if the private usage by the employees is determined and the employees are charged for this usage.
Example: the report below presents an actual fleet of cars for a real company. Some of the vehicles in the company can be used by the employees for private purposes. In order to determine private and on the job use of the cars for each of them a work schedule can be defined. In the example below it is visible that in January 2011 the total private usage of vehicles in the company consumed 250 liters of fuel which represents a considerable amount of money.
An additional important area of savings is related to improved control over the tasks, routes and stops of a vehicle during working hours. With the use of detailed stops and routes reports it is easy to identify stops which were not related to job activity or whch consumed too much time. As a result it may be possible to better control the number of vehicles and employees performing certain tasks.
Key functionalities of the application:
- Possibility of detecting events which have direct impact on the costs of fleet operations:
- detection of potential fuel theft and verification of fuel consumption norms compliance,
- detection of unsafe and uneconomic driving (speed reports),
- identification of non-job related stops and routes,
- registration and analysis of several vehicle parameters (based on sensors mounted on a vehicle, including CAN-Bus/ FMS interface),
- identifying under-utilised vehicles, improving overall fleet efficiency.
- Ease of generating several reports:
- private vehicle usage,
- vehicle working hours, routes and stops,
- actual and normative fuel consumption comparison (fuel invoices data import),
- POI activity reports (stops in the pre-defined user points - e.g. client locations)
- reminders and notifications about documents expiry.
- Possibility of exporting all the reports to Excel and generating flexible user reports.
